Tesla Coil Page

Low budget Tesla coil using 10kV, 35mA (350W) Neon Sign Transformer (the most expensive bit by far) and 12 x 3300pF x 10kV Russian 'door knob' Caps (arranged for 20kV @ 0.01Mfd). It currently stands in my conservatory and had a flan tin in place of a toroid when some of these pictures were taken.

Unlike most coils I have seen, it is isolated from the house electricity system by an (excessive large) isolating transformer to help keep my neighbors safe. The houses' earth terminates at the isolating transformer and the entire coil has its own earth.

More soon, meanwhile have a look at the pictures and click them for a closer look.

My coils' vital statistics

Secondary Coil
Diameter: 115 mm
Winding: 585 mm
Wire: 0.71 mm
Turns : 823
Wire length : 298m
Secondary inductance : 13.88mH
Approximate resonant frequency : 436 kHz
Quarter wavelength frequency : 252 kHz
Self capacitance : 9.59pF

Toroid capacitance: 19pF (5 inch by 17 inch)

Primary Coil
Capacitance : 0.0111 uF
Resonant frequency : 251.95 kHz
Coil diameter : 115 mm
Conductor diameter : 8 mm
