   The meeting will be in two days and will be held in Sohag city in El Zohor Island, a small island in the

   Nile of Sohag with a wonderful view on the Nile.

 

El Zohor Island:

Small Island in the Nile of Sohag City, It is a resort; composed of small chalets, swimming pole, resturant and

a meeting hall. It is relaxing place where you can set in the Nile under the sun.

 

 

 

 

 

 

Akhmeen City :

-2 km East to Sohag

-It is a place reckoned "the oldest city in Egypt" by the sixteenth-century Moorish geographer-historian

Leo Africanus.

-Akhmim is have built on the rubble of their ancestors since pre-Dynastic times, so the whole town rests on

a mound of remains, with a maze-like street plan essentially unchanged since the Middle Ages.

-It name came from the pharaonic times (drived from Khent-Min, the cult centre of the god Min. The name

of an ancient local fertility god).

- Flourished as the capital of the 9th Upper Egyptian nome in the Ptolemaic Period, when it was known as Khemis.

 

    The open-air museum in Akhmeem:

Contain some parts found in 1981 in the city as:

-Part of a temple with a monumental gate believed to date to the Graeco-Roman Period

-A beautiful Roman statue of Venus (Isis).

-Several statue fragments of Rameses II.

                                                                               

-Merit Amun statues (next picture): beautiful colossal statue of the Ramsis II daughter and consort. The statue

of Meritamun was a spectacular discovery. Carved from limestone, the queen who stands 11m tall (tallest queen

statue every found), wears a close-fitting pleated robe and is crowned with a modius (head-dress), decorated

with serpents and a double-feathers.

                                                                         

 Weaving Factories
A visit to one of the famous silk factories where you can see how the hand-woven textiles are made.
