Short History of The Department

1970  The study started in some faculties in Sohag as a branch from Assiut University.

1991  The Faculty of Medicine of Assiut University opened a branch of the Faculty in Sohag branch.

1995  The Sohag, Qena, Aswan, Hurghada branches of Assiut University was separated to be independent University (the South Valley University). Accordingly,  the Sohag branch of Assiut Faculty of Medicine became a separate Faculty of Medicine belongs to the South Valley University.

1994  The department started as a division within the general surgery department with Dr. Samia Saied,

The division is served by the residents of the general surgery department.

Number of beds was 6 within the department of Surgery.

1999 Separation of the division of Plastic Surgery as a separate independent department. The department was under supervision of Prof. Dr. Mahmoud El-Oteify,

Chairmen of Plastic Surgery Department, Assiut University.

2001 The department started to have their own residency program and positions.

2006  The Sohag branch of South Valley University became independent University (the Sohag University).

2007 The department members are 9 (1 Assistant Professor, 1 Lecturer, 4 Assistant Lecturers, 3 Residents). With a capacity of  24 beds,

2 main operative lists per week, 3 minor local operative lists per week, and 2 outpatient clinics per week, 4 beds for Burn ICU.
