Pour a cup and sit on down...
In literature, as in love, we are often astounded at what is chosen by others. These are my picks. I hope you are astounded when you read them.

She's Come Undone, by Wally Lamb. She's depressed, she's fat, she gets naked in an ocean with a beached whale...what a great book.

The Prophet, by Kahil Gibran. Haven't read this? What rock have you been living under? You'll never pass as a Harvard brat if you can't throw Kahil Gibran quotes into conversations at opportune moments.

Anywhere But Here, by Mona Simpson. Typical teenage angst with a twist: this has a lunatic, manic depressed compulsive-liar for a  mom who steals cars, gets arrested for non-payment of parking tickets, drags her across the country (only to leave her on the road a few times en-route)  and so very much more. A truly gifted writer is Mona Simpson..

Dinner at the Homesick Restaurant, by Ann Tyler. The compelling life stories of three siblings and their heartsick single mom set in the city of Baltimore, MD. You will put down this book with a renewed sense of what is important in your life.

Love Medicine, by Louise Erdrich. This book is a bittersweet, intriguing, soul-searching journey into the world of the historical and modern day Native American people. There is so much you don't know, so many things you need to hear, so many stories that long to be told in this book. This is a book I keep in my bedside drawer to this day.
