September 30, 2002
Well, it's over. No ulcers. No vodka. No insomnia. No more. Cheer up, brighten up, lighten up.
This is the scene at 5:30 PM on Friday the 27th day of September, 2002:
The judge reads the verdict slowly and deliberately. "Mr. Buckman, you picked the wrong court room to come argue this case in. Your views on women and authority are far out to say the least. This is the Equalty State! We gave women equal rights in this state over a hundred years ago. Yes, even then we had the sense to figure that out. You are a scary man, Mr. Buckman. I can see why Sarah is scared of you. I am scared of you. You would be nothing but a scary stranger to this child. You have contributed nothing to this child's life but biology."
Tears rolling, hand-holding.
Plantiff is granted sole custody. Defendant is granted a pile of bills and 50 years to stew in lonely anger. It's a scene out of a Lifetime Original movie. High fives and hugs and tears and order in the court. The bastard is out of our lives for good. For bad. For worse. Forever.
Do you see me smiling? You bet you do...
