Show at Lindee's Bar & Grill (Gig #12). We really didn't get a chance to flyer this show as we normally do, since Lindee's is about 80 miles away in Concord. But we did make up a flyer anyway. Our hope was that we would be opening for some other hot local band and that they would bring in their own crowd for us.
As it turned out the local headliners - Bomb, didn't show up. So us and the other opening band, Mood Stack (not Mood Stake or Mood Steak - Mood Stack) from San Francisco were going to be the entire show. The club had Mood Stack start later and play longer than they would have...this pushed our start time from 10:30 to about midnight. Fortunately Mood Stack was a good band. Very interesting, sort of like the Allman Bro's meet Tool. Well...kinda. Anyway - they're very good, very tight and we hope to play some more shows with them, either in SF or in Sac.
By the time we went on stage though - the club was nearly empty - again. This is what used to happen to us at The Boardwalk, the prior band would leave and take their crowd with them -- and we were kinda down emotionally concerning the deja vu of it as we started. I mean, most people in Sac know our name because of all of our aggressive promotion, but damn few have seen us live so far. Fortunately, we put it out of our minds and just got into playing the tunes like we would at reheasal - which is usually hard work, but also a party for us.
And then...the guys in Mood Stack came back in, (thanks again, guys) -- and so did all of their fans. Now we had a public party and it was rAwKing...man. Big time. We were 100% ON in public, for the very first time like we are in reheasals. Sometimes live my voice gives out -- but I was very careful with it before and during the show and it really paid off. Easily this was the best show we'd done -- only this time, we didn't have any video tape of it, like our last show at Club Cocodrie (drat). Since there we're only two bands - we were'nt limited by time constrainst and could relax. We played our entire setlist, including nearly all of our new songs. We debuted "Faith", one that I'd only performed a shadow of at Johnny Sux last week.
I really do think we blew everyone away. We were getting praise from the sound guy (who I'm sure see tons of bands every week). The bartender left a note onstage asking if we had CD's for sale. (Not yet, very soon -- keep checking the store). Our first encore was "Endless Night", since it was going to be played on the air in Las Vegas the next night. (People got up and moshed too it...) They asked us to do two more encores, so we wound up performing a total of 13 songs...almost everything we know except for "Don't Turn Back", "Silent Rage" and "Instrumentality" (which we've never performed live, yet). After the show we stayed and talked with the guys in Mood Stack about future gigs together...the club was locked up and closed and we we're still out their planning are next assault on the public.
We didn't get home until well after 3am...but it was worth it, and then some.
