Played our third
gig (under the name "Planet X") at the
Sacramento Co Fair. (Gig #4 total) We have another scheduled for
Sunday (at 3:00). We did a good show, only a few
technical issues - the highschool kids who had
played in the orchestra before us we're begging
their teacher to let them stay and hear us - but
they had to go.
We've revamped the setlist, and we now start
out with Run. The
kids had to leave in the middle of it.
Bummer for them.
We we're obviously kinda loud for the
fair. (Only the kick drum was miked - so the amps
were cranked) The stage was setup under a
tent, only a few people were sitting close by -
but we could see some people on the sides and
toward the back (near the Pony rides - just to
the left of the face painting booth) who seemed
to be into us.
I tried to talk the guys into going on stage
painted like KISS - but no luck.
A friend of Darryl's was there and gave us a
little hand with the ...um... sound. Basically they
had the keyboards turned up. The funny part was
they were already too loud (both on stage and in
the mains). As I played I kept turning them down,
and the sound guy kept turning them up. My volume
was almost off by the end. Darryl couldn't
hear himself, and noone could hear his Guitar
leads - since during his leads is when I usually
play keyboards.
Apparently the sound guy was afraid we we're
going to get upset if he suggested any changes -
but afterward he found out that wasn't the case.
We're kinda easy going and we just wanted good
sound. Today was basically a long soundcheck -
Sunday should be much better.
It was just one of those things, I guess -
nothing is ever perfect - it happens, basically
we need a regular sound person of our own who
knows what we want to sound like. In the meantime
we're going to rearrange how we do things on
Sunday - I'm going to bring an Amp for the Keys,
Ron is going to have his bass plugged directly
into the board so he does have to turn up so
high. Darryl is going to mike his guitar cab
also.
We need roadies too. Any Voluanteers?
Ah well, all things in good time...
Darryl's friend came over to talk to us after
the gig. This began a discussion about getting a
full-time keyboard player, something that has
come up before. Hey...Derek plays
keyboards - maybe we can work something
out?
"Things that make you go
....Hmmmm...."
