Planet X at The Crossroads with Girth and Plate

I have to say right now that this was one hellava show. We knew the evening was going to be good when we saw one our most faithful fans, Jennifer, wearing one of our T-shirts. She'd ordered it online from Cafe Press and it came out pretty cool. None of us had even seen one yet, since we a set of broke musicians. Plus we all wanted black ones, but the white T's look really good. She says Cafe Press delivered really fast and even made some corrections in her order with minimal fuss. And things only got better from there.

First up was Plate, who always put on a good show. Their singer Mike is a total crack up and had the crowd in stiches several times. Typical Mike onstage comment - "I'm not a alcoholic - I'm a drunk - alcoholics go to meetings". Although both Girth and Planet X are much heavier than Plate, they didn't let that daunt them in the slightest and the crowd was cool with that.

And what a crowd it was...The Crossroads was literally packed to the rafters. I have to give most of the credit for that to Girth, who are Woodland natives. Girth was handling the sound for this show and not only brought a killer P.A., they had a sound guy to run it as well as a full lighting rig with strobes and smoke. I'm telling you this was a SHOW, man. There were so many people in the Crossroads, the owner Melton was getting worried that the place might get trashed. After a brief tense moment with some moshers who were slightly out of hand - it was all good, once everyone understood that we we're all here to have fun and enjoy the music.

Girth put on an excellent show. They are essentially a death-metal band, but they are frankly one of the tightest and cleanest groups I've seen in Northern California - Period. Their sound was just plain PHAT. Scooby, their lead guitar player is simply one of the better players I've seen. Watching them took me back to the old days with groups on the Sunset Strip Clubs - fog machines and spotlights blaring. It was pretty sweet.

Lastly, came our turn. I have to admit we felt a little pressure to toughen up our sound, but really there wasn't much we needed to do. For our first few songs the crowds hung outside with the guys in Girth, but when we broke into "Pay Your Dues" - they all came back inside and stayed. We had 'em hooked and we didn't let go. We played for nearly two hours, pulling out all stops. We even did a serious of unfinished open-ended jams, a metal song "Give it to me", a blues song "The Feeling", a funk song and even a jazz song - "Message from the Gods". It was completely sick.

Wow - an entire starlog with nothing to complain about? Let's hope this trend continues. Cya.
