Chaos found no great use for her as a young child and turned her over to the Rose Gang. She was raised as a pleasure maiden. At 14 she was introduced to Tie when members of the Cadaracs payed for her services. Zem's brother Nimbus had come to Kataz in search of her. Nimbus purchased her from the Rose gang and freed her. She saw Tie often. The two developed a love. Zem became pregnant with Tie's child just before she was captured by a rival gang. Tie was able to rescue Zem, but she sustained injuries that caused amnesia. She changed greatly after the incident, she acted stronger and tougher. She refused her past life as a pleasure maiden and so refused Tie. She gave birth to Ym after she rediffined herself. Ym looked alot like Tie and it was clear that she must have had relations with him. Zem tried to be with Tie, but was not able to form a bond with him. Two years later Zem was killed in a gang battle.
