Planet first 2000
easy & positive ways
to help your environment

A personal message from the people who care enough to create this site

Like most of us, you have undoubtably witnessed  on television, in the press, online or even perhaps personally, the changing weather patterns and the havoc this has wreaked on communities - both human and in wildlife and habitats. We know that the intensity of recent  hurricanes, cyclones and tornados are a direct consequent of global warming.

The rapid increase in the melting of the polar ice caps attests to a planet that is warming at an unprecedented rate.

You will have witnessed the deteriorating air quality  in your cities and towns and the evidence of mounting rubbish and discards created by our vast consuming society.

From our communities in both urban and rural areas, comes reports of increasing  soil degradation and erosion, salinisation, blue algae in waterways  and  tree loss.

Like you and many others, We have concerns and love for our world and the magical intricate web of interconnected systems that gave rise to all life, including mine.

We humans do not own this web of life - we are but one species of many that are succoured by it.  Yet as a species, humans have contributed the most significant causes of its change and breakdown in the whole of this planet's history - and the past 100 years its been horrendous.

We did not set out perhaps to wilfully do this - yet we have caused other species to die out and in our unceasing pursuit of our quality of life and "progress" we forgot along the way that others have those same rights.

In any event, can the planet's biodiversity systems cope with this "progress".  We doubt it.

Massive population increases ( 1960 - 3 Billion people, 2000 - 6 Billion people ) most of the world's population is  undernourished whilst the average American, European and Australian consumes 70% more resources per day than a person in Laos or Bhutan.

As an American Indian said a long time ago "When the last river runs dry, the last tree dies and the last fish is eaten, we will realise we can't eat money"

The challenge is to remain optimistic and active in the face of these appalling symptoms of a planet under duress  - to seek out any ways in which we as individuals can do our bit in NOT making matters worse.  How this is done must be up to each of us individually - starting in our attitude to life - our behaviours and actions as we go about our daily lives.

Along with millions of others we are calling for and embracing a new ethic that recognizes that without a healthy  bio diverse system, a respect for all living things - there is no happiness, no tranquillity, no future, no life.

We refuse to give up.  We refuse to say "I do not care".  We are unsure of all the things we can do, yet we'll find out and apply that knowledge.  We will encourage others to care also and to act as they feel is good for all, in their own individual ways.   We am committed - our planet needs us as never before. Please join us.
