| Kenfar kept the two kits until they were weaned, then offered one up for sale. She decided to keep the female, calling her Striking the Clouds. The male was sold to a new ranch, as the start of their stock. She pampered the new kit a bit, especially while she was first missing her brother, but after a little while, the kit began to show an aptitude for jumping. So Kenfar decided that when she was old enough, she would start training her to jump. | ||||||||||

| After having been on Ahn'Durell for several years, she decided she would need some help if she wanted a large scale dunan stable. She sent a letter to some of her cousins and friends back on Malnev, asking if any of them wanted to come and help out. Not many wanted to travel to another world, just to play witha different type of racer, but she did have two or three positive responses. The first responder didn't send a letter, though. Lorkin showed up, practically on her doorstep one day, looked over her few dunans, and said, "Well, I'm here. What do you want me to do?" The silver wolv was a bit short, especially for a male, at barely five and a half feet tall, but this made him ideal for a jockey position. He'd done it before, briefly; but had left the position due to a falling out with the trainer. Now he was volunteering for the job here. Kenfar looked at her pale colored friend; she had missed him when he left the last farm. "I won't be able to pay you a lot, at least right now. But I have plenty of space and you can stay, and eat, here for free. Are you interested in jockeying for me? Maybe helping me train a little, too?" Lorkin checked out the dunans again. "Sure, sounds like fun. The roan one's pretty. Male or female?" "Female. She's my foundation mare. Name's Solar Strike. My foundation stud is is Cloud Runner, the white with the star. The third one, the white with the stripe, is their daughter, Striking the Clouds. She's temperamental. She doesn't like anybody but me. The other two will let anyone handle them, but I wouldn't let anyone inexperienced handle Cloud; he can be unpredictable. I recently bred Striking; she's due any time now. The stud I bred her to was a gold appaloosa, so I can't wait to see what turns up." She had walked over while talking and leaned over Striking's fence. Now, the white dunan was nuzzling her owner's arm, waiting for a treat or a pat. "I want to breed Solar again, but I want to find a stud that will complement her abilities, and her temperament. Maybe now that you're here, I can check out more farms looking for the perfect stud, even if I have to buy a new one." She grinned. "You alway were persistent," the wolv laughed,as he stood near the fence to the neighboring paddock, the one housing Solar Strike. He ran his hand down her neck, admiring the feel of the smooth coat. |
