Species Information for Planet Malnev

The Anjir
The anjir are a species of mini dragon.  They average around 2 meters in length, with a wingspan of roughly 4-5 meters.  They come in 7 colors, but in many shades of these.  The most common colors are blue, purple, and creme.  The rarer colors are red, green, and black. The rarest color, with only a handful known in the history of the species, is the white/grey, which can range from snowy white to an almost silver shade.  All colors are roughly the same size, and can be either gender.  Both males and females sport two sets of horns, a large set at the back of their skulls, and a much smaller set just below the first.  Occasionally, an anjir will hatch with elemental abilities.  This is rather rare, and when it does happen, the element is completely color-related: blue-water; purple-lightning; creme-earth; red-fire; green-wind; black-ice; and white-snow.  There has been no known shared personality traits among the individual colors, as is seen in some dragon species;  though, very rarely, the elements may have a small impact on the dragons personality, such as a fire being easily angered, or a wind being flighty.
The anjir grow quickly, reaching full maturity by 20 months to 2 years, depending on the individual.  Females tend to fall at the longer end of the growing scale, but they are able to breed shortly after they turn two.  They usually demand 3-4 chasers for a flight, and will sometimes refuse to fly until they have an acceptable number of males that they deem worthy.
About a month after the flight, she will lay 5-8 eggs, each roughly the size of a football, which usually take a month and a half to two months to hatch.  Some females have a tendency of laying twin eggs, and if this happens, her daughters, especially if they are one of the twins, will be more likely to lay them also.  Twins will be smaller than the others at hatching, but with ample feeding, they will quickly catch up to or even surpass their clutchmates.
Anjir also have an extremely strong telepathic link to each other; and will frequently come from half-way across the planet, or farther, at the call of another.  They also highly anticipate the hatching of a clutch, and will gather to welcome the hatchlings, especially at a time when the rest of the species were so spread out, they had mostly lost track of each other, and thus very few clutches had been laid.  Until now, that is.

The Malnevian Dragon
The malnevian dragon is a medium-sized, semi aquatic dragon, measuring no more than 6 meters at the shoulder, but with a length of no more than 21 meters.  Males are larger than the females, with most males at 4 m tall, 15 m long, and most females at 3-3 1/2 m tall, and 10-12 m long.  Males and females sport a pair of long horns at the back of their skulls, the males' completely straight, and the females' curving slightly inward at the tips.  Starting at a point between their eyes, they bear a flowing, flexible crest, all the way down their spine, ending at the spade of their tail.  This crest is smaller on the dragon's back, between it's withers and it's hip, and taller on its neck and tail.
Their wings are, proportionally, are a bit on the small side, but are not the primary means of flight.  They fly mainly by magic, using their wings primarily for executing sharp turns, abrupt acceleration, outrageous maneuvers, and extra support during mating flights.  They are also used for balance and maneuverability when swimming, one of their favorite pasttimes.  They are able to hold their breath for incredible lengths of time and are excellent swimmers.  Some females forego a flight in favor of a swim, choosing aquatic prowess over aerial acrobatics.
The malnevian comes in many of the same colors as the anjir, above, but don't have the same elemental tendencies.  Elements are more random, and far more rare.  The most common elements, when any are found, are water and wind.  They will also occasionally come in varying patterns.  (This is subject to my whim, as I have recently decided they look nice in random animal patterns)
After a flight or swim, a female will carry her eggs for approximately two months, then she will lay them in a warm sand bed, similar to the hatching sands on other worlds.  Females usually lay 12-15 eggs, but it isn't uncommon for them to lay far fewer.  There were a few rare occasions where a female gave birth to live young, but in these cases, there were no more than four born, and the females carried them for longer amounts of time.  Actual period of time depended on the number of offspring.
Hatchlings, or the rare liveborn dragons, are able to bond with another creature, usually a human (or humanoid) or occasionally another dragon.  Nothing bad happens if they don't bond, but if they do, the bond is for life.  They have no objections to sharing their bond, in general, though some individuals may.  If their bond dies, they grieve for a while, but will generally continue to live as normal, especially if they have a mate, or other close family who need them, such as unbonded hatchlings.
Unbonded hatchlings live with their parents until they are old enough to live on their own, but will occasionally be allowed to go with a friend or other responsible party to live in another area.
