TIMMINS City councillors had the opportunity to see plans for the Shania Twain Interpevtive Centre and the expansion of the TIMMINS GOLD MINE TOUR at there regular meeting. Work on the $11 million project has already started and is expected to be completed by July 2001. The Centre is set to include a 4,000 sq. ft. exhibit space featuring Shania and will be an interactive attraction allowing visitors to see how a record is created. The displays will feature $1 million in memorabilia including awards & gowns which Shania has donated to the centre.

Shania makes a suprise appearence at Timmins High Reunion- Many Timmins High Reunion goers where plesently suprised when Shania Twain showed up at the Reunion without any security around her, she blended into the group posing for pictures and chatting with friends, classmates, teachers and fans.

Since the story came out that Shania made The Timmins High Reunion Shania has made all the headlines accross Canada from newspapers to TV news and Radio. Now it seems the Daily Press is getting bombbarded from news medias all over the world looking to get photos and news about Shania. They have also been getting tons of emails from people interested in the reunion news but also about when the opening of the Interpetive Centre will be. Work Begins on the City's New Shania Centre
More than two years of planning have come to an end with work beginning on converting a large piece of land covered with trees and brush into a landmark for Timmins.
About 30 locals made their way through the rough terrain and gathered with Timmins Mayor Vic Power for the Shania Twain Interpetive Centre ground-breaking ceremony Monday.
We're all looking forward for the centre to open on Canada Day 2001.

Future Looks Bright for the Shania Twain Centre
With Shania's popularity at it's peak the Shania Twain Centre will recieve a great deal of attention. What about in 10-15 years? The future of the Centre looks bright when you compare it to Dolly Parton's 'Dollywood' in her hometown Pigeon Forge Tenn. After about 16 years 'Dollywood' is still running strong and has been a major asset to the town.

Letter from A Resident of suggestion to boost riders of the railsystem
The Government is looking at options for the rail service to some of the northern areas, like Timmins. James Keizer from Iroquois Falls suggested the front car be painted HOT PINK and call it THE SHANIA TWAIN in order to attract more riders. Making the seating more comfortable with food and beverages brought to the riders seats while they enjoy listening to Shania's music and watching her videos and life story as they ride. Roger Rheault of Cy Rheault Construction, which was awarded the contract to build the $6 million centre, says despite frequent snow storms which have been followed by frigid tempatures has not caused a delay in the Centre's opening schedule of July 1, 2001.

Update on The Shania Twain Centre.
The Centre is expected to draw an additional 55,000 visitors a year translating into an expenditure of about $7.2 million in tourism dollars. The Timmins Gold Mine Tour is getting a $5 million renovation ensuring it matches the newer attraction.

Councillors learned Monday that $450,000 has been secured from A Human Resources Development Canada Fund for th $6 million Centre. Timmins Mayor Jamie Lim said the announcement is excellent news for the Centre. Thanks Tinker!

The Timmins Chamber Of Commerce unveiled a campaign Tuesday morning, dubbed SHANIA TIME by the organizers.
The summer readiness committee, a sub-committee of the TEDC, is creating a comprehensive tourism information package for visitors coming to Timmins for the opening of the centre.
There will be a lot of international visitors. We're trying to get them to stay (in Timmins) a few extra days.

Students learn business Shania-Style
What Do Consumers Want?
A group of students from a local high school found out that knowing what consumers want is one of the first steps in researching a business plan during a presentation by Timmins Tourism Manager, Will Saari.

Twenty-four students at Timmins High & Vocational School, who are preparing business plans for their marketing class, learned the basics during Saaris presentation on Friday.

Saari is also the Site Manager of the Timmins Underground Gold Mine Tour and the Shania Twain Centre.

During his presentation, Saari talked to the students about the Shania Twain Centre and Twain's popularity.

She (Twain) is a huge industry, he said.

Probably the first and most important aspect, Saari said, is research for the business plan. Make sure it's something people want.

Tenders Called for construction of TWAIN LANE
A more convenient access is on the way for the Shania Twain Centre and the Timmins Gold Mine Tour. The city is accepting tenders for the basic two-lane road construction project which will link the Centre's west end parking lot with PARK ROAD, near the exsiting enterance to the Hollinger Golf Club.
