What are the Jaycees?

  • Young adults (21-40) of any race, creed, or color.  
  • A group dedicated to community improvement and personal betterment. 
  • One of the fastest growing young people's organizations in the world. 
  • A stimulus to community spirit. 
  • A group that will readily accept the challenge of a difficult community project. 
  • International in scope - there are chapters in over 100 countries and territories. 
  • Recognized by government and business leaders at every level as an organization which develops new community leaders through constructive action.  

The Jaycees offer activities in three development areas:

  • Individual Development - designed to increase the personal skills of the individual member. 
  • Community Development - programs and projects run by the chapter for the direct benefit of the community. 
  • Management Development - management techniques and officer's training to improve the individual's management skills.

Who are the Plainfield Area Jaycees?

The Plainfield Area Jaycees is a not-for-profit, volunteer organization comprised of men and women between the ages of 21 and 39 in the Plainfield, Illinois (USA) area. We are part of a larger organization, the Illinois Jaycees, which is a part of the United States Junior Chamber of Commerce. The term Jaycee is short for Junior Chamber of Commerce.

What's the purpose of the Plainfield Area Jaycees?

We promote leadership training and the development of personal skills for our members through community involvement. Jaycee members develop new skills and enhance existing ones by becoming involved with our many projects. By becoming involved in organizing projects for the community, members have the opportunity to realize hands-on experience that will ultimately sharpen one's leadership and management skills.

What are the benefits of active membership in a national organization?

Membership in The U.S. Junior Chamber has its privileges! How much time do I have to commit?

Dedicate as much time and effort as you want. Of course, your return on investment will depend greatly on what you want out of your membership and how much time you put into it.

How much does membership cost?

Each chapter sets its own dues rate.  Plainfield Area Jaycees annual dues are $40.  Your dues help run your local chapter, as well as the State, National and International organizations.

How do I join?

Joining the Plainfield Area Jaycees is easy. Simply complete our prospective member form and bring it to the next membership meeting.

When and where are the meetings?

The Plainfield Area Jaycees meet on the second Tuesday of every month at Baci's, 407 W. Lockport in downtown Plainfield starting at 7:00.  Click here for directions to our montly meeting location.

Sometimes we meet at different times or locations.  These changes would be listed in our Calendar of Events.

I'm not sure about joining.  What can I do?

Check out our Calendar of Events and come see us in action.  We have regular monthly meetings, help out at local events, and host our own events and fundraisers. Prospective members are always welcome.

After I join, then what?

It depends on you; there are many diversified activity areas. After you join, all that remains is for you to involve yourself in whatever areas stimulate your interests. If there is something that interests you that the local Jaycees don't do, then we want you to propose a project. Your local chapter, region, state and national Jaycees organizations are continuously improving their programming to better fulfill the needs of the community and the varied interests of all our members.
