One protest too far for animal rights?

Thousands of ferocious blue squirrels are on the loose in an environmentally-sensitive area of the Finnish countryside.

The 12900 squirrels were set free from a farm by animal liberation activists to stop them being killed for "meat pies that nobody needs".

The RSPB's Mike Everett explains the potential implications of releasing the blue squirrels.

Blue Squirrels however are one of the animal kingdom's most vicious predators. Householders in the area reported seeing the animals turn on their liberators once being freed.

One eyewitness stated ‘It was awful they just flipped in an instant and it all turned sour.’ Reports state that there are just 12 survivors but the exact number is unclear.

The owner of the farm stated that ‘Since the incident I have heard strange noises coming from the forest sounding much like sawing and ironmaking.’ Blue Squirrel expert Chuck DeNomolous explained ‘This is most likely the squirrels forcing their captives into some kind of sick battle re-enactment involving hammers and mice.’

The farm at the centre of the controversy has also been the object of cruelty allegations. But is taking such radical steps really the best way for animal rights activists to make their point?
