| Hi, I'm Jared M. Place and welcome to Place Knives, a page dedicated to my handmade knives. As new projects are completed, new pictures will be posted. I am a "spare-time" knife-maker and use mostly hand tools in the construction of my knives. I enjoy working with 440C stainless steel, but I also like using O1, ATS-34 and and other popular blade materials. I can use just about any handle material, but prefer Micarta for it's toughness. The colors of Micarta slabs I have in stock include olive drab linen, olive drab canvas, black and olive linen, black linen, black paper, black canvas and individual scales of burgundy, butterscotch and natural canvas. Other colors can be had on special order. Because my knives are made by hand one at a time in my spare time, completion may take between 60 and 90 days. Thank you for your interest, I'll see you in the Blade Forums as placeknives or drop me a line at: [email protected] or [email protected]. |

| This is the MODERN NESSMUK. It has a 6 1/4" blade of 1/4" thick differentially heat treated O-1 tool steel. The tang is fully tapered to give the blade plenty of weight up front for greater chopping and cleaving power. I have rounded the spine on this knife giving it a nice radius to make push cutting, whittling and other chores more comfortable on the thumb. The handles on this model are Arizona Ironwood, secured with 3 Loveless style bolts, brass pins, brass lanyard tubing and 2 ton epoxy. The finish is 1500 grit polished to a satin finish. Price to make a similar piece, $300.00. No sheaths are available at this time. | Here's another view of the NESSMUK. | |||||||||

| Knife#3. Here is my stainless damascus bowie with Mammoth Bark ivory scales and brass fasteners. It was made from Mike Norris ladder pattern stainless damascus 1/8" thick. This was the first knife I was ever commissioned to build, and the third knife I ever made. It has a 5" blade and is 9 1/2" overall. Price for similar knife, sorry, I don't think I'll make another one of these! But if you like the style I'd gladly make a simliar version of regular stainless or high carbon tool steel. |
