| Brian: "Placebo's Seven Deadly Sins are: Laziness, Homophobia, Racial Intolerance, Parental Guidance Stickers, Violence, Retro, Sobriety and the Early Licensing Law" Brian on Stefan : "on the outside, Stefan is a Vulcan. But, on the inside, he's the softest, cuddliest teddy bear you can imagine. He thinks too much as well. He's a cross between Mr Spock and a Cadbury's cream egg" Brian on the new placebo : "There used to be an ugly bloke, he was our old drummer but we had to get rid of him. Now there are no boneheads Brian on his image : "I refuse to be held responsible for bringing back a wave of pasty-faced people into the world" Brian on "Nancy Boy" : " 'Nancy Boy ' says, 'Have the courage of your convictions.' But it also says, 'If you don't feel like it, don't fuck with it cos it's fashionable.' It's a celebration of being off your head and feeling horny. It sorts out the men from the boys." Brian on the lyrics : "I like the lyrics to mean different things to different people. The songs remain ambiguous enough so that you can attach your own meanings. The lyrics I've written are mostly about my emotions or my experiences. They reflect the danger and the lack of clarity - how everything is not black and white - it's all shades of grey. "When I'm writing lyrics I start with a melody and sing garbage on top. Gradually, words come from nowhere and I build the lyrics on them. It's like they're coming from the sub-conscious. They belong to the air as much as me. They have a life of their own Brian on the buisness : "There's a hell of a lot of freedom in this rock and roll circus ... it's where all the freaks go ... it's the environment for me" Brian on Brad Wood : "It was obvious from the outset that we both wanted to do the same things - to produce a modern, forward-looking record that was not retro in any way,". "Basically, we wanted a partner in crime, not someone who was going to put a sheen on it. Brad was perfect." Brian on the future : "I certainly don't see us as a flash-in-the-pan band. We're concerned with our longevity. We want to be successful, but we also want to be around in ten years" Brian on Placebo: "punk pop for postponed suicides." Steve on Brian : "Brian is probably the most confused woman I've met in my entire life. I wish he had more luck in love. He deserves it. He is the artist formerly known as punk." |
