Life in London
......just a little info of the place called Eastham-the centre for all/most plabbers...
To reach Eastham from Heathrow Airport terminal----
--tubes [underground train]
Heathrow is served by only one line called the Piccadilly line blue line on the tube map], and there is only one platform to both come and
go
To reach East Ham, you need to change to district line which you could do at either Earls
court [name of the station] or Hammersmith. But Hammersmith is a better option as you do not have to change platform
[considering the heavy luggage u have ]
From Heathrow airport to Hammersmith is approximately 50 minutes
Hammersmith/Earls court to East Ham station is around 70 minutes. considering
there are no break down/service work happening [specially during weekends]
You have the option of either walking ,pulling your luggage with the help of your friends who would have positively arrived to welcome you at
Heathrow or Eastham station [after all what are friends for]. You have the option of hiring a
taxi [adjacent to the station].
Once you are in Eastham, the numerous pound shops will impress you and you will start to buy a lot of stuff from here. It would be better if you also checked in the supermarkets (Tesco, LIDL) before buying here as many items will be cheaper here. There are a category of shops called pound
shops. most of the items in these shops are around 1 pound
Change your TCs at Banks and a particular bank will not charge commission for your TC.
You need to do get use to a lot of walking in Eastham specially if you are put up in areas near Barking road and the
PLAB 2 courses at the other end[nearer to the Eastham station
You can become a member of Eastham library free of cost [proof of residence now a must] and borrow books to your room. Eastham library is always filled with
plabbers [specially the computers connected to internet].Most restaurants will have vegetarian dish, although menus at better places often offer several choices. aS anywhere , vegans would find the going tough.
The high streets have takeaway restaurants, from McDonald’s and Pizza Hut to the
local curry /tandoor/fish house etc. There are many superior and outstanding restaurants in
England/Eastham. Seafood, various meats, roasts and many other dishes are often very well prepared. London has scores of restaurants that could hold their own in major cities worldwide.[only cause of concern is the price factor]
Self-catering/service is by far, the cheapest way to eat. You can buy good quality pre-cooked meals from the supermarkets – Marks and Spencer
/LIDL[cheap]/s'bury are the most highly regarded. It will work out economical if you could cook for yourself.
Takeaway alcoholic drinks are sold from neighborhood off-licenses rather than pubs. it is cheaper than bottled drinking water.
If you are the religious type of person or suddenly you realize that the plab exam
did not go that well you have temples/mosques/gurudwaras/churches.
When days get boring and u get home sick [specially waiting for results] and if you have a group you can travel around
London through tubes or stage coach with a travel card [week end travel cards are cheaper-available at any tube station]
