William Ackroyd, age 6, arrived in the new world on October 24, 1885. The ship Catalonia took the young boy's family from the port of Liverpool to his new country through Boston, MA. Arriving with William was his mother Mary Jane and six other siblings. There was no listing for his father Joseph and older sister Susannah.
The family is first listed in the 1889 city directory for New Bedford, MA. Later in 1889, the Ackroyd's moved to Lawrence, MA. Joseph is listed in the city directory from 1889-1892.
William married Grace Deacon on October 5, 1898 in Haverhill, MA. The ceremony was performed at St. John's Evangelist's Church. William is listed in the 1900 US Census. Mary Ackroyd is listed in US 1900 Census as residing with her daughter Lizzie (Elizabeth) Pettingill. William Ackroyd later resided in Providence, RI (approx. 1901-1914), Pittsfield, MA (1914-1916), and Delaware County, PA as of 1917. William and Grace had three children Lucille, George and Ralph.
