Preston's Weight Loss Blog
This is a record of what I have learned while losing weight.
Entry for October 10, 2006

Today was another good day. My knee is about 98% back. I have no pain or discomfort when walking. I do experience some discomfort when jogging. I have to thank my chiropractor, Dr. Vanderloop, for getting me back to being whole. He told me it would take a while to get it back into shape. My tibia was rotated which was causing the pain. I have picked up my pace and my stride.

Lesson learned: Have you ever considered the hand? What relationship to walking is the hand? I learned something tremendous and I might be the only one who didn't realize this. The hand sets the length of the stride and the pace.

The next time you walk, focus on your hands and not on your feet. Start walking with your hands by your side with no swing. Notice your pace and stride and mark it. Next, start swinging your hands with fairly good swings. You might try about 10-12 inches in front and about that much behind. Notice the stride getting longer. Also, increase the pace of your hand swings and notice your pace picking up. Now, move your hands up by bending at the elbow. Act like you are carrying something in front of you. Increase the swing of your hands. you will notice your pace picking up. However you won't notice your stride picking up because your swing isn't that big with your hands.

How does that correlate to life? It is the little things that really matter. Consider your relationship with God. We think that going to church and fellowshipping with other believers and serving in ministry are all key to our relationship with God. Those things are important and necessary, but the real ingredients to our relationship with God is prayer and reading our Bible. Those are only small things and don't require much energy, but with them it makes all of the other major things such as going to church, fellowshipping, and serving meaningful.
