Dictionary of General Terminology
| Term | Explanation |
| Status | "Status" refers to a character's condition. In battle, status can be affected positively or negatively by certain items, magic, attacks, or even field conditions. Outside of battle, the term "status" expands to encompass a character's vital statistics, such as Max HP or Experience To Next. |
| Vital Statistics | A character's vital statistics are a measure of his or her performance in battle, expressed as numerical constants. These usually increase as the characters Level Up. Typical values for vital statistics are in the range of 0 to 255 (in other words, are contained in 1 byte of memory). However, some stats like Max HP can go up to 9999. |
| Max HP (Hit Points) | Hit Points are a numerical representation of a character's health. Characters lose them as they take damage and can regain them through use of curative items, spells, etc. When your characters' HP reach zero, they become battle inactive, which is a nice way of saying that they've been killed. Max HP is the maximum amount of HP any one character can hold. |
| Level/Level Up | A character's level determines his or her vital statistics, and ranges from 1 (at the start) to 100 (fully powered). Some characters also learn new skills as they Level Up. Levelling up is accomplished by defeating enemies, which yield experience points. |
| Magic | Magic is a blanket term for any ability that uses psychic power and that can be learned by most of not all characters equally. Magic will eventually become a major part of your battle strategy, and is divided into groups. Each group, or innate color, is further divided into two polars or elements, a male and a female. Using magic effectively is important; everything has strengths and weaknesses determined by their innate colors and elemental types. |
| Innate Color | One of six color attributes given to the twelve main branches of magic (Red, Green,Yellow, Blue, White, Black). Each of these is divided into two elements, which are the male and female polars of the group. These interactions have an effect on how well a given character can use a particular type of magic. |
| Polar | The polars of an innate group are the two elements it contains. Each innate has one female or base element, and one male or derived element. See this chart for a graphical explanation. Polars differ from elemental type in that they are a separate consideration in calculating type advantages. |
| Elemental Type | This is one of a character's vital statistics. It determines that character's elemental weaknesses, strengths, immunities if applicable, and part of his or her type advantage makeup. |
