this is the final installment in my "year in review." i know it's been a while since my last update - thanks for being patient (all three of you)!
ha ha...here we go:
october - the highlight of this month was the chance to go see my college roommates in new york. one of my good friends, sterling brown, is in his third year in the graduate acting program at new york university. he was performing the lead role in a student production of august wilson's three guitars. all of the guys wanted to be there to see him, and also to hang out together again. so i flew out from san francisco. olivier theard, a third year law student at the university of southern california, flew out from los angeles. sonny kelly flew up from north carolina (he's in the air force and was stationed there at the time). lamar baker took a train down from yale, where he's in his third year of law school. and we all stayed at clinton starghill's apartment in fort greene, brooklyn (his roommate is tarana harris, also a good friend of ours from stanford). sonny, olivier, and i had some time to experience new york on our own, which was a pretty interesting experience. we tried to be on mtv's trl (lil' kim was the special guest) but we were too late! ha ha. we went to see a yankees playoff game which is an experience i'll never forget. 60,000 drunk, crazy, impassioned, "cheer for the yankees or i'll kill you" fans certainly leave an impression - lucky for us we got in the good graces of the locals (i think). we saw rent the next day. we ate pizza. we ate hot dogs. it was beautiful. sterling's play went really well too. he's a talented actor - maybe you'll see him onstage (or onscreen) somewhere in the near future. you can see pictures of my trip here.
november - every thanksgiving weekend for the last seven years, a group of friends from high school - van nuys high school classes of 1993 and 1994 - have gotten together to eat breakfast. since a lot of us left after high school to attend college in far-away places, we had always made it a point to meet up whenever we were all back at home for vacation. even though we've all graduated from college now, and have started moving on to the next episodes of our lives, a lot of us really make the effort to keep this breakfast tradition going. this year was unique because we usually only have one female with us (and that's irene chu! wassup???); hector showed up at breakfast this year with his girlfriend. i guess we'll have to get used to it, since another one of us is getting married this summer. ha ha. i know that lots of people my age don't really keep in touch with people from childhood or high school, especially those that went to college and made new friends, but for some reason we have. and i'm really glad that we have. although we don't see each other too often anymore, it's still good to know that we have a commitment to one another as friends; that no matter how far away i go, i'll always have people that i can call up to hang out, people i can trust with my problems and look to for advice, people that care about how i'm doing. and it's a privelege to be the same kind of friend to them as well. wow, that was pretty sappy! ha ha.
december - well i started the webpage this month! i'm not gonna do a recap of the month cuz i think anyone who's read the journal can figure out at least a little bit about what i did and what i was going through. overall, i had a really good year. looking back on the year as i have in the last couple of weeks, i really thank god for all that he blessed me with - the experiences i had at work, church, and home; the friends i made, in addition to the ones i already had; my family. that's not an exhaustive list - there's really so much to be thankful for. i pray that in the year ahead, god continues to reveal more and more of his goodness, his power, and his love to me; that he would help me live my life more faithfully and passionately for him; and that by doing so, i can be a light in this world, reflecting his glory to others as well.
hope you've enjoyed reading...
