Mr. PK Gupta has a Bachelor degree in Electronics and Communication from IIT Roorkee and has a wide experience of 35 years in designing digital communication equipments, designing and setting up various LANs and WANs, designing and developing business applications for batch mode and process industries and also the same for e-Governance applications for various Government departments.

He has extensive experience of operation and maintenance of various networks and computer processing facilities. He developed a Management Information System for a multi unit multi location organization in India (SAIL) which worked both on VSAT and leased lines networks.

He has vast experience in assessing IT (computerisation and networking) needs of an organization, and preparing blue print for implementation.

He has undergone specialized training in IIT Madras on LAN and from Germany on Automatisation of PCM testing.

Implemented various Wide Area and Local Area networks, responsibilities included to  finalise users  functional requirements, design of the network, selection of the hardware and software, preparation of purchase specifications, tendering, price negotiations, placement of purchase order, inspection of the    equipment, coordination during installation and commissioning and liasioning with the various Govt. agencies like DOT, MTNL, WPC, DOE. Specific projects are:

1987-90 at SAIL

Implemented SAIL Voice Communication Network (SVCN) connecting various offices of SAIL all across India to its steel plants The transmission loss of the network from office to office was engineered and achieved also as Odb loss. The network supported automatic dialing on 4W E&M basis Network supports 2000 subscribers at 53 nodes and average traffic of 4000 long distance calls per day. The network was laid on 4W E&M leased lines from DOT and I had set up 30 channel PCM systems and multi channel UHF systems between DOT’s transmission centers and SAIL offices. For example, PCM link was established at Delhi between Jorbagh Exchange and Ispat Bhavan and  Multi channel systems were commissioned at Durgapur and Burnpur between DOT centers and SAIL plants. It was first corporate network to remove last mile problem to provide reliable communication in absence of reliable public network.

1987-90 SAIL mines

Set up SAIL captive mines terrestrial UHF (1.5 GHz) multichannel TDMA network which was planned, engineered and  implemented through M/s GCEL.. The digital mart system at 1.5 GHz transmits 30 channel PCM system to 10 remotely located mines of SAIL in Bonai range located in Bihar and Orrisa

1988-92 at SAIL

Set up 1200 bps virtual private data communication network for SAIL using 34 VSATs(CDMA) from NIC. I developed MIS for the operation of SAIL and ported that application on this network

1995-97 at SAIL

Set up a  64 KBPs virtual satellite based network for SAIL using connectivity of 56 VSATs with Hub of private service providers (HCL).The project covered linkage of marketing offices with production units and Head offices and provides online connectivity of databases of production units with stockyards, branch offices, regional headquarters. The computer network provides telenet, FTP and e-mailing besides online enquiry system through home pages.

1999-2003 at BSP,SAIL

Implemented ATM switch based plant wide Campus Network for Bhilai steel plant in association with ER&DC Trivandrum..  The project was partially financed by MIT

5                    RATE CONTRACTS       

2005 at MCD

Prepared technical specification and also tender documents for finalizing Rate Contract to procure Computer Hardware, LAN components and services for MCD. I also evaluated the offers received and with the help of tender evaluation committee and finalized the contract. I set up a campus wide area network for SDN Hospital, Delhi to implement the HIS(Health Information system) I designed campus WAN for remaining 5 hospitals also and prepared BOM.

6                    DATA CENTRE

Set up a Pilot Data Centre , which was based on 3 tier architecture with application and data base servers using Oracle 10g on Linux

Conceptualized a Data centre for MCD and in association with CDAC, Noida, tendered the project. Financial model was based on BOT and 50% fixed payment and 50 % based on the performance

9                    FACILITY MANAGEMENT

1976-1980 at ITI

Project management of development and introduction of 30 Channel PCM in Indian P&T Telephone Network in collaboration with M/s NEC, Japan and TRC, New Delhi. The job consisted of transfer of complete know -how from NEC, arrangement of materials and facilities to set up manufacturing line at ITI Naini, converting NEC production drawings into regular ITI production drawings, setting up testing jigs and fixture, debugging at various testing stages. Activities also included field trials, Pilot production, Installation and Commissioning of 30 channel PCM systems in DOT’s Network.

As SAIL introduced many changes in management practices at the time when Mr. V Krishnamurthy was its Chairman, I was given the task of delivering lectures at Management Training Institute of SAIL at Ranchi to Mangers and above about those changes which MIS and Computerisation and Communication will bring in their working. I also conducted seminars, training courses to update the knowledge of computer and communication professionals numbering 100 working in various steel plants and mines in the areas of telecommunication and computer networking in the years
