Notebook Information
Notebook checks are conducted once each grading period.  They are always worth 100 points and have a large influence on your grade.  The following information should help you keep a great notebook and help you earn some "easy" points.  Be sure to follow all directions carefully and see me if you have any problems!

Basic Set-up:
The workbook does not have holes punched in it, so assignments will be removed from the workbook and included in the notebook as if it were a separate location.  DO bring your workbook to class with you daily.
      The
first written page of the notebook is the location guide.  You name and period number must appear in the top right hand corner.  There should be a title on the top line, "Location Guide".
The correct form is as follows:
                                    Location Guide
Loc #          Title                                                        stamp/due date
1             Info Page
2             Course Description                                     stamp 8/18

Locations are written on the board daily and the list is ongoing for the week.  You will also find them listed on the web page for your class
You
may write on the back side of your location guide.
Locations will follow the location guide page in numerical order.  Be sure to always hi-light the location number.  If a location is printed on colored paper, it is acceptable to just put a box around the number.
Several locations are on-going and are checked separately with each notebook check.  This includes the
stamp value on Loc #5 (Vocabulary) and new information added to Loc #6 Metrics & Equations and Loc #8, the Periodic Table.  It is essential you work on these locations as requested during notes so they are up to date.

To receive credit during a notebook check, each location must be in correct order (hooked into the binder rings), location number hi-lighted, and the work complete.  Locations simply "place holding" (ie, incomplete or blank) receive no credit.
Stamps are a large part of the notebook.  Stamps are awarded for having the assigned work completed on time.  This is to allow you to receive credit for practice without penalizing you for incorrect answers.  Once a stamp is credited during a notebook check, it loses it's value.  If you miss getting a stamp, your grade will only suffer once because of it.  Stamped work is typically reviewed in class to allow you the opportunity to correct any mistakes you may have made.
Notebook Checks are announced in advance and the grading form is posted so you can self-check before the notebook is graded.. It is up to the students to keep their notebook ready at all times!  This is not a tool you can look at once a semester.  With a good notebook there is no reason you shouldn't do well in chemistry.
