At last, after a month of early mornings and late nights, we have a beautiful new downstairs living area that fits our family. We want to give a great big THANK YOU to my mom for her countless trips over to Patterson to help us get this job done right.
We decided to get a little creative in the powder room and dining room.
It's amazing how we always worried about dropping something heavy on the tile for fear it would crack, but banging with a sledge hammer merely chipped it!
A 60 pound jack hammer turned that tile to crumbs.
To smooth out the leftover thinset and mortar, we used a cement grinder. DUST! DUST! DUST!
The before picture. We removed the carpet in the nook and dining room areas, removed the linoleum from the kitchen and powder room, and removed the tile from the front entry. We replaced the flooring with 18 inch tiles and we added a kitchen island.

As with all of our projects, the kids couldn't wait to help out with the work. They helped out with the removal of the kitchen linoleum.

Finally, we can start laying the tile!
We installed the kitchen island by drilling a frame into the concrete slab.
The tile is down, now it's time to grout!
