Appartment building "1989" - Hillekop Plein

This is the view North. You can see the Willemsbrug (1,2) and the lift-bridge "De Hef" (3).

De Hef (72m) was an important rail-bridge but it is not used anymore since the train-tunnel was built. It is kept as a monument. Many years ago a swimmer climbed this bridge and dived into the harbour. This adventure ended well. Many years later, when he was 50 or more I saw him on television where he told his story. However it is also reported that the next swimmer who tried this jumped to his death.

The Willemsbrug (65m) has been climbed by Jan van der Meulen and Peter Mosch.

This is the view to the Northeast. You can see the (1) Laurenskerk - Church, (2) Nedlloyd building, (3) ???, (4) Library and Station Blaak, (5) Appartment building "Het Potlood" - The Pencil, (6) Het Witte Huis - The White House, (7) Willemsbrug.

The White House (45m, 11 floors) was built in 1897 and it was the highest building in Europe for some time.

The Nedlloyd building (88m) has been climbed on Queen's Day (Koninginnedag) 1998 by Jan van der Meulen en Joost Bomhof.
