View from metro-station Slinge

Zuiderparkflat - 9 January 1999 my son and I visited the Zuiderparkflat near metro-station Slinge. We used the reliable technique of waiting until someone walked out the door and holding the door open for him. The Zuiderparkflat is an old appartment building, 11 stories high. The gallery of the upper floor gives almost a 360° view of the city. On this sunny winter's day the view was magnificient.

These pictures were scanned with my old scanner, they don't show all the details. I will re-scan them with the new one soon.

The whole skyline of Rotterdam seen from the south. You will never see this view in the tourist-brochures. The most prominent landmarks are - as always - The Euromast, The medical university, Nationale Nederlanden and the Erasmus bridge. On the far right you can see the Willemsbrug.

Looking west - In the foreground a standard 1960-1970 suburb, with appartment buildings and row-houses.

In the background the harbour. On the left the KPN Microwave tower at the Waalhaven and the coal-burning power-station at Heyplaat. The power station has been gutted and the 5 chimneys have been demolished in 1999 - 2000.
