Random pictures - too good to waste

Some pictures I found in my archive. They'll never get a page of their own, but they ar too nice to delete immediately. I will leave them here for a while so I can delete them later with a good conscience.

Walter and I climbed twice onder the Botlekbrug and Walter bumped his head twice in the same spot. Once during the TV-recordings and once during our private rehearsal for the recordings. But the pictures were never aired. This was on the far side of the bridge. A picture postcard from several years ago. The inner-city harbour was a lot busier than now. Today more cargo goes by truck and train. But the boats were nicer to see.
A hydroelectric dam in Germany. It had the lowest water level since years. Schwarzenbach Staubecken, Kraftwerk Forbach, Badenwerk AG Karlsruhe. Built in 1922-1926. Fall-height 326m. 4 turbines, 43MW. A transformer-building in the courtyard of Vlaggemanstraat 15 in Rotterdam. It should be fun to research the path from my electricity outlet to the powerstation. Maybe it runs through this building, maybe not ...
The backside of the Rotterdam World Trade Center. The round cupola on the left is the restaurant of the V&D store. They serve a good cappucino and apple pie. And you get a nice view from their terrace. The Van Brienoordbrug seen from the south. Notice the old houses huddling under the bridge. They're part of the old village of IJsselmonde. I love this bridge and I never tire of walking over, under or around it. The high rise building belong to Capelle aan den IJssel, on the other side of the river.
A forest of pillars under the train-viaduct. I pass over it every day on my way toThe Hague. What should you do with such a nice space? Play paintball? Hide and seek? It's near the Abraham Stolkweg. Looking from the Keilestraat towards the Marconiplein. An old warehouse on stilts, like a small piece of Venice. In the evening this is the cheap red-light district of Rotterdam.
Walter's climbing wall. He's installed in between his front door and his living room. The side door leads to the toilet and you're not allowed to use the doorknob as a hand- or foothold. There are 15 short routes in the 5c-6c range. A bit too difficult for me. A beautiful old chimney at the corener of the Kerkhofstraat and Kerkhoflaan. It belongs to a shop with building materials "Zonneveld en Landheer". Unfortunately it has been disgraced by two mobile phone antenna's. Here you see the original state.
This bridge was the first urban object I climbed. I did it from one side to the other and back. Unsecured and close to the water. Not too difficult, but intersting enough. I have to do it again sometimes. Several times I've tried to walk on top of the bridge railing from one side to the other. It shouldn't be difficult, it's 10cm wide and flat. But the fact that you might fall into the water makes it scary and I never managed more than two segments.
It's fun to climb the railing of this bridge on the wrong side. Not difficult but being unsecured above the water makes it interesting. It should be possible to climb the cables to the top of the pylon. Also there's a steel pipe underneath that should be climbable from one side to the other. A train enters Rotterdam Central Station from the south. On the right the post-office builing. Snow is very rare nowadays, we see it for just a few days per year. I'm afraid the climate is really changing fast.
This is the favorite spot of the people who showed me the secret cable tunnel. "There are a lot of nice places in the harbour, but this one is special, no one ever comes here." Indeed, I called tis spot "the end of the world". It's the Pistoolhaven (Pistol Harbour - don't know why it's called this way) at the end of the Markweg. Looking towards the 4t Petroleum Harbour. This is the grain elevator.
Looking East down the Noordzeeweg. Here you're at the height of Hoek van Holland, it's over the water on your left. The Eastman factory at the Markweg. Here you're really far into the harbour. They make the basisc plastic granules.
Jan van der Meulen's son - Karel - is climbing an artwork in Northern Italy. He's on a top-rope held by his father. One of the oil-refineries at night. This one is near the Dintelhaven. At night the refineries look like science-fiction cities.
