The Proposal.....
Paul is amazing... he not only planned and executed the perfect proposal, but he made it so special & surprised me!!  On Saturday, July 24th, 2004, I found a note and a single red rose outside my door telling me to be dressed nicely and ready for dinner at 7pm that evening.  I had NO IDEA he was flying up to DC from South Carolina to surprise me!  My roommate Amy can attest to the fact that I was completely surprised and was trying to figure out why he would surprise me when we had already planned to get together the following weekend.  I was so shocked he had signed the note "Your Love" that I dropped the note on the table and took a step back.  We had never said the words "I love you" to each other and for him to sign the note that way meant something important.  I just couldn't figure out what!  Amy helped me get ready (she, of course, was in on it!) and I was ready to go at 6:45pm sharp....
He took me to Old Ebbitt Grill for dinner (I reminded him that this was where  we had gone on our first date back in Dec of 2001 & he of course played dumb and acted like he had forgotten and it was a coincidence that we were going there.)  I wasn't wondering if he was going to propose, although the thought had crossed my mind earlier that afternoon - I was just enjoying being together!  After dinner, we walked out of the restaurant and needed to get a cab, so I started to walk down the street to a better place to flag it down and Paul said, "Babe, that's ok - let's just take this."  It was a stretch limo!  When we got inside I could tell someone we knew had been there before us because there was a CD and a Bible sitting on the seat.  I still didn't suspect anything - things were happening too fast and Paul sometimes likes to do things over the top!  He said he wanted to take me on a night tour of the monuments. (which he knows I love!) We toured the monuments and then stopped at the FDR Memorial (my favorite).  We got out and took some pictures, then walked around the Memorial... then we paused to sit on a bench along the water facing the Jefferson Memorial and talked. He got out the BIble and read Proverbs 31 and a passage from Ephesians. He then told me what he appreciated about me and then what happened next happened so quickly I didn't have time to realize what he was doing! He got down on his knee and said, "I'm sick of not saying this; I'm sick of holding back... I love you... Lindsey Ann Lorinovich... I need you... & I want you to complete my team." I was taken back by everything.... I then asked him if he knew what he was asking me.... he laughed and looked at the ring as if to say, "I have the ring, of course I understand what I am asking!" He sweetly said, "Yes, I know..." I said yes and then got up and gave him a big kiss. Then I found out he'd already asked my parents and talked to his parents, my sister and brother-in-law and my roommate Amy, who helped him! We went back to my apartment where some good friends had been waiting - what an amazing night and one that would change our lives as we started planning our new life together.  We were married in Vermont 4 months later!
