Dubrovnik, Croatia
would have been a great pic... if my eyes were open!
We awoke on day 4 of our cruise in the beautiful Adriatic port city of Dubrovnik, Croatia. the sky and water were both amazing shades of blue! We decided to go on a Jeep Safari excursion to explore the Croatian countryside to the fullest! We started off the day by climbing into a Jeep SUV for our on and off-roading experience. We had another couple in the car with us that were on their honeymoon and Paul drove! The great thing was that the leader of the exscursiong was a 24 yr old guy who didn't mind the jeeps getting scratched by low branches or bushes, or muddy! It had rained through the night so there were enough puddles to keep Paul happy. :) We first drove up to a lookout spot in the hills surrounding Dubrovnik - an amazing view!

There we go... well, my eyes are half open because of the bright sun!
For lunch, we drove up into the hillside to a house that has been owned by the same familiy for over 800 years! It survived the war and political unrest and the family carries on today the same as they have for generations. Everything they eat and serve come from their garden and land. We had some delicious bread and olive oil from the olive trees they grow on their land. They open their home up to various tour groups and serve the meal themselves! It is a family affair and they made us feel welcomed. They showed us how they cooked the traditional meal... they cooked the meat/potatos under hot coals for hours. It was excellent! They also served us sweetened figs when we arrived. I bought some figs and olive oil to take home with us.
Our food is under the hot coals somewhere!!
Paul thinks this is pretty cool... plus we are getting really hungry at this point in the day!
A centuries old olive press... still operational! I believe they do the bulk of their olive pressing on different machines now, though.
