Naib Tahasildars Grade-B (Recruitment)
Rules1998.

In exercise of the powers conferred by the proviso to article 309 of the Constitution of India and in supersession of all existing rules, orders or instruments made in this behalf, the Governor of Maharashtra is hereby pleased to make the following rules regulating recruitment to the post of Naib Tahasildar, Maharashtra Civil Services Group-B under the Revenue and Forest Department of the Government of Maharashtra, namely:-

  1. (i) These rules may be called the Naib Tahasildars Grade-B (Recruitment)
    Rules1998.
  2. In these rules unless the context requires otherwise:-

  1. "Commission" means the Maharashtra Public Service Commission;
  2. "Government" means the Government of Maharashtra.

  1. The Naib Tahasildar's cadre shall be a Divisional cadre and the persons appointed in that cadre may be posted, transferred or deputed to any place of the State of Maharashtra .
  2. Appointment to the post of Naib Tahasildar shall be made either:-

  1. by promotion of a suitable person, on the basis of seniority, subject to fitness, from amongst the persons holding the posts of Aval Karkun or Circle Officer in the Revenue Department of the Government of Maharashtra having not less than three years regular service in that post, and have passed the Secondary School Certificate Examination conducted by Divisional Board under the Maharashtra Secondary and Higher Secondary Education Boards Act, 1965(Mah.XLI of 1965) and includes any other examination declared by Government to be equivalent thereto:
  2. Provided that, the proportion in which persons from the cadre of Awal Karkun and Circle Officers are to be promoted shall be prescribed for each Division by the Government, by executive order after considering the strength of each cadre; or

  3. by nomination on the basis of the results of a Competitive Examination held by the Commission from amongst candidate who :-

  1. are not less than 19 years and not more than 30 years of age;
  2. possess a degree of Statutory University or any other qualification declared by Government to be equivalent thereto; and ;
  3. have a adequate knowledge of Marathi.

  1. Appointment to the posts by promotion and nomination shall be made in the ratio of 67 : 33.
  2. Provided however, if in the opinion of Government the exigencies of service so require, Government may, after consultation with the Commission, wherever necessary, make appointments to the posts of Naib Tahasildar Group-B in relaxation of the percentage prescribed in these rules for recruitment by nomination.

  3. (1) A person appointed to the post by nomination shall be on probation for a period of two years, during which period he shall undergo such training and pass such examination as may be prescribed by Government in that behalf.

Provided that, Government may extend the probationary period of a probationer, who has not passed such examination or has not completed the probationary period to the satisfaction of Government, for such further period not exceeding one year in the aggregate .

  1. A Naib Tahasildar on probation who does not pass the prescribed departmental examinations or who fails to complete the probationary period specified in sub-rule(1) shall be discharged from service.

  1. A person appointed to the post shall be required to pass the examinations in Hindi and Marathi according to the rules made in that behalf, unless he has already passed or has been exempted from passing those examinations.
