The Plattsmouth 5th/6th Grade Jr. Devils youth football team won its league
championship game this past Saturday at Burke High School with a hard-fought
14-8 victory over the previously undefeated Omaha Suburban Bulldogs. QB
Travis Sabatka scored both TDs for the Jr. Devils on runs of 1 and 70 yards.
The Plattsmouth defense held a Bulldog offense, that had been averaging 32
points per game, in check for most of the contest with their only score coming
in the 3rd quarter. The Bulldogs did have the ball at midfield with 3
minutes left, but the Plattsmouth defense stepped up again to force and
recover a fumble. Following a QB bootleg for a first down, the Jr.
Devils were able to run out the clock and bring the championship home.
Coaches were quick to praise the hard work, discipline, and team-first
attitude of the players as keys to this group winning their 2nd consecutive
championship. The Plattsmouth Jr. Devils compete in the EVW Youth
Football League, comprised mostly of Class B youth programs from eastern
Nebraska. As such, the team gets to compete against many of the same
programs that they will continue to see in Jr. and Sr. High School. With
only 4 6th graders on this year's team, coaches are excited about the
continued development and future prospects of this group of special players.
The Plattsmouth Youth Football Program would like to congratulate its players
on their outstanding season and recognize them for doing it the right way
through hard work and team commitment. The program would also like to
recognize He

Coach David Jones and his assistants (Greg Orten, Kevin Jensen, and Keith
Siemonsma) for all their volunteer hours each week and the outstanding job
they have done in teaching solid fundamentals and how to play the game with a
passion.
The Plattsmouth youth football program directors and coaches want to
recognize and congratulate all their teams and players on an outstanding season.
In addition to
the Junior Midget squad, the program also had a team entered in the EVW PeeWee League
(finishing the season 4-4 in its respective division). Plattsmouth also sponsored two 1st/2nd
grade teams in the Bellevue Junior Sports Association Flag Football League.
More than the records, what most impressed staffs this year was the
discipline and enthusiasm that continues to characterize our players.
That focus and positive attitude bodes well for the future of Blue Devil
football.
A reminder to all our
players and parents that the End-of-Season banquet is scheduled for Sunday, Nov.
9th at the Plattsmouth VFW from 2-4 PM. A video highlighting the season
will be shown as part of the program. Please bring a side dish or dessert.
Fried chicken and drinks will be provided. Also, please bring your cleaned
uniforms and equipment for turn-in.
Signups for youth football next year will be towards the end of school in
May with practice and games beginning in July and August, respectively.
We look
forward to seeing and working with you all again next season!!
