Drayton v Great Yarmouth 23rd May 2009

Great Yarmouth 144-9 Drayton 146-1 After the previous weeks disappointment at Caister, the first team returned to winning ways at the weekend in the comfort of their home ground. A fine all round bowling and fielding display set up the comfortable win against a sporting Great Yarmouth side. Drayton's bowlers bowled 15 maidens between them in 45 overs as they exerted a tight stranglehold on the visiting batsmen - top performers with the ball were Gary Foreman, who recorded 7 maidens in taking 1-22, Michael Mario-Ghae (3-20), Lee Cornfield (2-14) and Michael Breame (3-33). Drayton's fielding was also excellent in defending the lightning fast outfield - James Reeve and Ravi Dave excelling once again, whilst behind the stumps Howard Davies gave a fine display of wicketkeeping on his return to Drayton colours.

Drayton's opening batsmen, Andy Hawes and Philip Wright, rarely looked troubled by the Great Yarmouth bowlers - who none the less probed for a breakthrough admirably. Having brought up the 100 in the 26th over, Drayton rather took their foot off the pedal - eventually reaching their target in the 39th over - Hawes having fallen two overs earlier for 52, Wright ending unbeaten on 58.
