Drayton 'A' v Winterton 'A' 27th June 2009

Winterton 'A' 106 Drayton 'A' 107-3 With more bowlers at his disposal (albeit that one of them, Gary Foreman, had to leave at 6.15), Graham Crowe put Winterton in and the accurate and wily Foreman was duly rewarded with a wicket in the first over. As last week, Spelman scored quickly, but with Foreman (2-9 in 8 overs) and Marc Gridley (2-15 in 5 overs) bowling well, wickets fell regularly, leaving the visitors at 28-4 after 9 overs. Though Playford and the experienced Mark Hambrook mounted a determined recovery, the Drayton bowlers Jamie Scarff (3-26) and James Pepper (2-33) finished off the innings. Neil Chamberlain pulled off a remarkable bat/pad catch, springing up, taking several quick steps and a dive to catch the Winterton number 10. Play was held up for twenty minutes, after Drake, the Winterton skipper, sustained a bad cut above the eye after top-edging a ball from Pepper. An ambulance eventually took him to A and E.

Though Drayton lost an early wicket, Mike Sutton (20) and Foreman (22), batting up the order because he had to leave early, saw the side to 67. Foreman laid down a marker for promotion with a composed innings, including one mighty six, after which Richard Taylor and Crowe finished off the win.RT
