Sprowston 'B' v Drayton 'A' 6th June 2009

Drayton 'A' 127 Sprowston 'B' 128-2

With so many players unavailable in the First Team, Drayton 'A' took the field at high-flying Sprowston with a ‘new look’ side, several of whom had sportingly helped out at short notice.

When Drayton batted, the Sprowston attack bowled tightly: Niblet bowled four maidens in his first five overs. Nigel Massingham (who finished on 31) and Mike Sutton (16), aware that several regular batsmen were missing, batted carefully, reaching 50 in the twenty first over. Skipper Graham Crowe anchored the middle of the innings with a resolute 27 and Jamie Scarff, batting 5, scored 11.

Opening bowler Askham’s second spell blew away the later Drayton batsmen, taking 5-11 in four overs, and Drayton were all out for 127 in the 40th over.

When Sprowston batted, it was vital that the Drayton bowlers exerted pressure, but it was not to be: the hosts raced to 33 in the first four overs, with a succession of boundaries. Jason Trett appeared in the eleventh over and took both wickets to fall, finishing with 2-16 in his typically accurate five overs, but Sprowston reached their target in the 26th over. Pearce finished on 53 not out.
