President's Day 2008

13 August No match reports this week. The first teams game with Hardingham was abandoned after just 15 balls were bowled, with Drayton on 17-0, due to the heavy rain which started to fall just prior to 2pm. The 'A' team's game with Felthorpe was abandoned without a ball being bowled. Sunday saw the President's Day game - and the game was won by the President's side (fix?!). There were several excellent individual performances - with the bat from Gary Smith, Chris Coupland (despite having to retire hurt - see Chris's profile page to see why), Ryan Pointer (who hit burly paceman Jason Trett for a huge six - see Ryan's profile page also!), James Reeve, Tim Woods and Jason Trett. With the ball impressive performances from Keith Robertson, Tim Woods(!), Daz Flatt, James Kay, Ryan Pointer, Phil Soanes and Richard Taylor. I have uploaded over 50 photographs taken on Sunday to the Facebook group - if you would like a link to the pictures without having to sign up to Facebook, please let me know. And now a message from the President:

Dear All, unfortunately I didnt get the opportunity to extend my thanks to you all (I was too busy burning the burgers). I personally had a great day and what made it even better was the support that you all gave. Hope you all also enjoyed the day.

Thanks to Pat, Janice, Ruth, Natalie and Erica for preparing the food, they were all a great help. Also thanks to DCCs in house photographer, Alan "David Bailey" Wright for his snapshots and umpiring session.

Finally thanks to my support cooks, Graham "who wants a burnt sausage" (Alias Antony Worrell-Thompson), Robbo "my sausage is the biggest" (Alias Keith Floyd) and of course myself Gordon Ramsay. "wheres the bloody onions"!

Thanks for all your batting, bowling, fielding, barracking and sledging (on and off the field ) making it such a brilliant day. As someone pointed out to me we cannot remember a better turn out at Drayton such as we had on Sunday.

Tony
