Drayton v Fakenham 'A' 26th July 2009

Fakenham 'A' 179-8 Drayton 154

Drayton's Sunday side turned in a fighting performance against a young and enthusiastic Fakenham side - ultimately just coming up short of victory. The visitors batted first and their total of 179-8 was built almost entirely around a century from one of their senior players, Spillet. Next highest score was Phillipson with 13. For Drayton, Ryan Pointer produced two good spells - taking a wicket in each. However, Drayton were in control when the father and son combination of Rob and Nigel Raven were bowling. Rob, changed his boots and cut down his run up and bowled with great control to finish with figures of 9-3-29-3. His dad Nigel, fresh from taking 6 wickets for Shipdham 'A' on Saturday, and called in as a late replacement finished with 10-1-27-2. The other Drayton wicket taker was Tom Cooke - thanks to a first stumping for the club by Fraser Dobson. Special mention to Tom Radford for another outstanding fielding display.

Drayton lost wickets regularly and after 18 overs were staring down the barrel at 57-7. Captain Jason Trett, looking for bonus points, knuckled down to hit a fine 33 - receiving excellent support from Nigel Raven, with 43 not out, and Rob Raven, whose 16 included two huge sixes. Ryan Pointer in adding 20 for the last wicket with Nigel Raven helped secure maximum batting bonus points as Drayton ended 25 short of the Fakenham total.
