FREEDOM HOUSE (mentioned by former CIA
director James Woolsey on "Meet The Press" on 4/19/03)
"This fourth world war, I think, will last considerably longer than either
World Wars I or II did for us. Hopefully not the full four-plus decades of the
Cold War. He said the new war is actually against three enemies: the religious
rulers of Iran, the "fascists" of Iraq and Syria, and Islamic extremists like
al Qaeda. Woolsey told the audience of about 300, most of whom are students at
the University of California at Los Angeles, that all three enemies have waged
war against the United States for several years but the United States has just
"finally noticed."

BETTING ON THE TRUTH
A recent bet revealed that some have been playing fast and loose with the facts.
A reader of the Cleveland Plain Dealer newspaper challenged its columnist Tom
Brazaitis to a bet. Brazaitis claimed that President Bush had stated Saddam
Hussein posed an imminent threat. The reader wagered $500 to go to the winners
charity. He wanted proof that Bush actually said Saddam was an imminent threat.
The reader also requested the paper print a retraction if Brazaitis was wrong.
After an exhaustive search, he couldnt find any evidence that Bush made such a
claim. In fact, Brazaitis admitted that Bush made the opposite claim in his State
of the Union speech when he mentioned that an Iraqi threat was NOT imminent. The
actual remarks can be found below.
What this revealed is every politician and media outlet who claimed Bush called
Iraq an imminent threat are wrong. He never said it. But that hasnt prevented
them saying otherwise.
As for the wager, Brazaitis and the paper never paid up.
Thats the Point.

The text of President Bushs remarks during the 2003 State of the Union speech
that addressed the threat from Iraq is as follows:
"Some have said we must not act until the threat is imminent. Since when have
terrorists and tyrants announced their intentions, politely putting us on notice
before they strike? If this threat is permitted to fully and suddenly emerge,
all actions, all words, all recriminations would come too late."
