Author's Note: I hope you guys are enjoying reading this fic because I am really enjoying writing it for you.  Here is the fourth chapter.

Bessie, Bodie, and Alexander entered the waiting room.  Pacey, Andie, and Doug were sitting in there.

"Hey guys,"  Bessie said, in an exhausted sounding voice.

"Hey, Bess," Pacey greeted her.

"Everyone went home to rest and get showers but they all said they would be back shortly," Andie informed.

Bessie put Alexander down on the floor and he ran to Pacey.  "Pace...pace." he said climbing onto Pacey's lap.

"Hey little man," he said hugging Alex close.

"So, have you guys heard any news on Joey or Jen?" Bodie asked.

"Well, there is no change with Joey,"  Doug answered sadly.  "And Grams is with Jen right now.  They are supposed to be releasing her within the hour."

"Well, that's good.  I'll bet she'll be glad to get out of this place,"  Bodie said.

"Well, it isn't like I'm going anywhere, because I won't leave," someone stated, coming into the waiting room.  Everyone turned to see Jen standing there with Grams.  Grams had a comforting arm around her.  Jen put down the suitcase Grams had packed for her and went up to Bessie, putting her arms around her.

"I am so sorry, Bess,"  Jen said looking her in the eye.

"Jen, this is NOT your fault.  This could have happened to anyone.  And Joey is going to be fine...she has to be."  Bessie added, her voice cracking.

Pacey still sat, holding Alex.  Bessie turned to him.  "Pace, I'm gonna need your help,"  Bessie told him.

"Sure, what's up?"  he asked.

Bessie went up to the nurse's station.  Only one nurse on call.  Perfect.  Bessie turned on the tears, which was not hard considering what she had been going through lately.

"Ma'am what's wrong?"

"Oh, please help me.  I am a wreck.  My sister is in here, and I haven't slept in two days, I haven't been able to get in touch with my father, and on top of everything else, now the stupid coke machine won't work, and I just don't know what to do!"  'Whoever said, I couldn't act' Bessie thought as she got more and more hysterical.

"Ma'am, calm down.  It's ok.  We have another coke machine in there,"  she said, pointing to a door that said Employees Only.  "Come on, we'll get you something to drink."  She said soothingly, leading Bessie into the room.

Pacey looked around the corner.  Good they were gone.  'Very good, Bessie,' he thought, then he made a dash into Joey's room carrying the baby in his arms.  Once he was inside he pulled the door shut.  "Looks like we made it Alex," it told the baby.

In just a few seconds Bessie came through the door.  She took the baby and kissed Pacey's cheek.  "Thank you so much.  Here have a coke."  She handed him the can and Pacey couldn't help but laugh.

Bessie stood by the side of Joey's bed.  She sat Alexander on the edge of the bed.  "Now, sit still, baby, so you won't hurt Joey."  Bessie wondered if she was doing the right thing.  She didn't want to scare Alex, but Joey didn't look bad, she just looked as if she were asleep.

"Jo...hey Jo!"  Alex said smiling.  "I love you."

Bessie started to cry but stepped back so that Alexander wouldn't see.  Pacey put an arm around her.  "She's gonna be ok, Bess.  She is strong.  She won't give up."

They only stayed with Joey for about 5 minutes.

"Well, I guess I had better get him out of here, before they find us out,"  Bessie stated.  She picked Alexander up off of the bed, where he had been sitting, talking to his aunt as if she could hear him.

"Give me kiss, Joey!"  he said.

"Aunt Joey is resting sweetie.  Here give her a kiss,"  she said picking up Joey's good hand and bending down with the baby.

He smacked her hand.

"Ok, Pacey, you ready for round two?"

"Oh, yeah!"

He took the baby and Bessie left the room.  The same nurse was sitting at the station with her back turned to Joey's room.  She walked around the table and the nurse looked up.

"I just wanted to thank you for being so understanding and helping me with something so small.  I have just really been under a lot of stress, you know?"

As Bessie continued talking, Pacey and Alexander sneaked their way out of the ICU unit.

Joey heard Alexander talking to her.  She knew he was there.

'I love you, too, Alex.'  Joey thought.  'I love you so much.'

A month passed and there had not been much of a change for Joey.  She still had not waken up since the accident.  The swelling had gone from her face and her bones were beginning to heal, but Joey still laid there lifeless.  She now had an oxygen mask covering her nose and mouth to make it easier for her to breath.  The doctors felt she would not survive without it.  With each day, the doctors gave her family and friends less and less hope.  Bessie had finally reached their dad, who had flown out on business right after Joey's graduation.  From the moment he arrived back in town he had been sitting by Joey's bed every possible moment holding her hand, and willing her to survive.

Pacey was on his way to the hospital.  It was such a beautiful day.  Why couldn't he be spending it with Joey?  He entered the hospital and made his way to the ICU waiting room.  Bessie and Bodie were talking privately and Bessie had tears in her eyes.  Just then Mr. Potter walked into the waiting room.  Bessie looked at him expectantly and he just shook his head silently.

"What's going on?"  Pacey asked, fearful of what they may say.

"She's had a really bad day,"  Mr. Potter said.

"She's getting worse, Pacey," Bessie added.

"You guys are giving up," Pacey said as tears sprung to his eyes.

"Pacey..."  Bodie began.

"No, you are...you're giving up!"  he exclaimed and ran through the double doors, toward Joey's room.

When Pacey entered Joey's room he noticed that her IV bag was gone, and the tube in her arm was plugged in case they had to run an IV to her hand again, and she was no longer wearing the oxygen mask.

'Oh, how could they give up on her?  How?' he thought, helplessly.  'How could they just unhook her from the things that were helping to keep her alive?'  Pacey was crying like a baby.

He took a chair beside her bed and looked down at her.  She was so beautiful.

"Joey?"  he began.

"I've wanted to give you something for a long time.  I guess I can give it to you now."

He took out a small diamond ring and put it on her finger.  "I know you are going to argue with me about this when you wake up.  I mean we are only 18 and we can't get married.  But one day...one day we will...right Joey?  I love you so much.  They are giving up on you, Jo.  But we are going to prove them wrong.  You aren't going to...to...die.  Because if you did, I think I'll just lie down and die right beside you.  You mean that much to me, Joey.  We all love you.  We have been here waiting for you to wake up every day.  Me.  Bessie.  Your Dad.  Dawson.  Everyone has been here, Joey.  You have been so strong.  You've been a lot stronger than me, I can tell you that.  You're breaking my heart, here, Potter."

Pacey couldn't do this anymore.  He stood and walked to the door of the room.  He reached for the doorknob.

"Pacey?  Pacey, please don't leave?!  I'm scared."

Joey startled herself.  Had she just said that?  She opened her eyes and saw him.  Somehow she had found her way back.
