Spawning & Splitting Leathers!
January 2003: These three leathers are all "frags" from the original colony. I have not manually helped then in any way, other than moving a few of them around to the other end of the tank. These leathers have unusually long polyps -- they have been mistaken for Xenia and various LPS --- and a nice pinkish color. They are also very SPS friendly, and I've never seen them slime or mucus up ever.

The leather at the higher right position is attached to the glass, and in the last few days has become the home to an O. Clownfish whose been in the tank for about 18 months.   There is one more small "frag" behind these three -- it was a 2" piece of a head from the other end of the tank that seperated and fell to the bottom -- amazing, self cuttings! Anywaw, I placed it on a small rock, and it's already extended and attached.
Here's three more colonies... not a good picture; I took it at a lousy angle. They are just as big as the other leathers, and the lower pair (almost totally split) are the original colony. On a small rock between the pair in front and the leather in back is a tiny 1/4" tall colony with about 8 polyps -- it appears to be the result of a leather spawning!!!
