| Here's a few pages on my 125g reef setup. The tank has been running since February 2005 when we moved into this house. It replaced my 100g acrylic which was setup in our prior home. The tank is dominated by a pair of large montipora capricornicus, with other corals -- SPS, LPS, softies, gorgonians -- for variety. Until June 2006 the tank was acro dominated, but an additive-influenced crash caused a major SPS loss. The Caps and softies survivied, but the acros did not fare well. These days I am more interested in Montis, brains, and chalices, and I hope to grow out a few more into large colonies. Equipment Details: Tank: 72"x 18"x24" All-Glass 125g with dual corner overflows. Stand and Canopy: custom through Fish Doctors of Canton (made to resemble the Mission style furniture from All Glass). Lighting: Hamillton retro system -- a dual magnetic ballast firing XM's 20K mogul bulbs over the left and right side of the tank; and; Hamilton PC balalst firing one 35" actinic Power Compacts bulbs on each side of the tank. Control: ProfiLux Plus II controller, with Ph and temp probes, manages the lights and temp. It is hooked up to a spare PC in the basement to provide e-mail alerts. LED Lights: ProfiLux Simu-L sticks (blue, red, and white LEDs) provide moonlight and sunrise effects, as well as lightning storms. Return pump: Iwaki 30. Sump: Pro Clear Aquatics 175. Skimmer: Tunze 9010. Small, energy efficient, and mighty! Flow Supplement: a Tunze 6100 Streams on their single controller, and a MaxiJet 1600 with the Algae-Free 2100 gph mod. Purification: a 3-stage RO unit, turned on daily via an electronic water value controlled by a digital timer, sits in the basement. Topoff: a SpectraPure "LiterMeter I" dosing system pumps up topoff water (alk-supplemented) throughout the day. Power: dedicated circuit with GCFI feeds power to most of the tank. A standard GCFI outlet feeds a few remaining items. Heater: Ebo-Jaeger sits in the sump. Cooling: The home's A/C combined with a CoralVue temp-driven 2 speed fan. A 6" clip-on fan is added in the summer. Water changes: a big Pan World pumps fresh salt water up from the basement for changes. No more lugging buckets upstairs! Fish: Maroon Clown, Coral Beauty Angel, Bi-Color Angel, LemonPeel Angel, Neon Dottyback, Orange Spotted Rabbitfish, Clown Goby, Yellow Goby. Inverts: Sand-sifting star (who is frustrated because we have no sand); huge green brittle star. (Just found a brown brittle star in my sump. Have no idea where he came from). Substrate: None.... US Plastics kitchen-grade "star board" on the bottom. |
