Corbin Bridge, Newport, NH
Originally erected around 1935, the Corbin Bridge spanning the north branch of the Sugar River in Newport, New Hampshire was destroyed by arsonists on May 25,1993. It was shocking to think New Hampshire had lost 3 covered bridges in 3 months. Enraged townspeople immediately formed committees and began plans to replace the  bridge.
A 3 day festival drew  a crowd of  approximately 10,000  people to watch as  teams of  oxen drew the bridge across the  Sugar  River  every effort  was  used  to  construct  the  bridge  the same as original  bridge was  built.
Long  hours and  hard  work   made the   this  event  possible  and  showed the  determination  of the  townspeople to  make this all possible.
The  Corbin bridge as  we  see it today is listed  with the  National Historic Registry and is  New Hampshire Covered  Bridge #17.
Residents of Newport and  surrounding  towns  realized  their  goal of  building a  replica in October of 1994.
