Ashuelot Bridge |
As in most things in life we have favorites. As far as covered bridges in New Hampshire I would have to say the Ashuelot Bridge is my all time favorite. Nestled on a corner of Route 119 in Winchester this bridge is lovely with its white lattice work and bright red roof. |

This bridge located in Upper Ashuelot Village spans the Ashuelot River. Originally built in 1864, this bridge is one of the more elaborate covered bridges in the state. |

To the side of the bridge is a granite marker cut in the shape of New Hampshire |

The Ashuelot Bridge is 169 feet long and has sidewalks on both sides of the bridge. There is a sign on both sides of the bridge that states a $5.00 fine for anyone riding or driving over the bridge faster than a walk. I wonder if it is enforced! |

This is such a quaint setting, and so typically New England. The original purpose of the bridge was to transport wood across the river for the Ashuelot Railroad. |
