I have always grown up enjoying the game that is the most watched and played sport in the world...FOOTBALL... or Soccer as many people in the States know it as.

I have many fond memories of events that have taken place in World Soccer; Maradona's hand of God, Manchester United's win over Bayer in the Champions' League, France's triumph over Brazil in the '98 World cup, just to mention a few.

My most exciting memories though, are always going to be those concerning Arsenal Football Club. Winning the FA Cups, The League (or Premier League), The Charity Shield, even the not so illustrious Ajax tournament always make my day or week! Goals have also always been something that I have enjoyed watching... let me rephrase, Arsenal goals have always been of the utmost importance to me during a match! Kanu's goal against Middlesborough in 1999, Henry's goals against Man Utd and Spurs, Bergkamp's goals against Newcastle Utd, Barnsley and Leicester City- this list can keep going on and on!

I have visited Highbury once in my life and all though I have never gotten to watch a game there, and now that Arsenal is moving into the new 60,000 seater Emirates Stadium, I do not think I ever will be able to. That memory, however, will remain fresh in my mind. My heros of the RED & WHITE Army will always remain and be the following:

  • Tony Adams
  • Alan Smith
  • Ian Wright
  • Martin Keown
  • Liam Brady
  • Dennis Bergkamp
  • Patrick Vieira and finally
  • Thierry Henry

There are others that I really think will join that list, some of those being Kolo Toure, Robert Pires, Freddie Ljungburg, Robin V.Persie, Lauren and more.

Many people I have met and am friends with, HATE the Gunners. Does that bother me, NO, not really because you would hate a team that whoops the team you like week and week out. People hate Arsenal because they are a bunch of foreign (mostly French) guys on a single team with a foreign (French) coach. What???? This team is bound together and very talented and there is no doubt that Arsenal FC play some of the best soccer on the planet! They can entertain anyone enough, even when they lose, so that we get our money's or time's worth out of watching them. It is like a piano... the black and white keys come together to make a beautiful tune, with just one type of key, you come with something that could not sound as beautiful.

Henry is now Arsenal's leading goal scorer with almost 200 goals (1/25/2006) surpassing Ian Wright's record a couple months back. He is a legend and will always be until someone else breaks that record. Do I think someone can? In the world we live in today where players are not committed to their clubs and are always out looking for another club that will pay them more, I don't think I can live to see another striker break that record as long as I am alive. If it happens, that will be another unbelievable thing I would experience in my lifetime. What makes it very unbelievable is that I was watching it live when Ian Wright had broken Cliff Bastin's record, and now about eight years later, I see Thierry Henry break that same record. He did not do it alone though, he got a lot of help from the players around him. Ian Wright never had that type of quality surrounding him in those days. But I take nothing away from Henry, he is one of the best, if not the best striker, in the world today.
