COASTER

Heart beating
Smile beaming
Waiting to begin.

Climbing Up
and Up and Up
Clackity-clack
Clackity-clack
and Up and UP

Then,
Dropping down.
Free Fall.

Silent now,
No wheels a-touching.
Only screams of
Joy and Fear.
I hear.

Air is flying
Past my head.
The speed is blinding.
Screaming is the only mend.

Fear
Not of falling, but
Of
Unknown thrill.

Up and Over, Up and Down.
Seeing only blurs of light.
Chill is gone
Desert night

Careening around in Arcs
Unbound, but by track.
Insides churn,
Excitement burns.

Through the farmhouse,
Up a hill.
Screams echo,
Such a thrill

Then,
All still
as it ends.
All smiles,
Running to ride again
.
I was inspired to write this on the event of my Fortieth Birthday in 1997. My wife and I went to  Buffalo Bill's in Primm, Nevada with another couple to have dinner and get tickets for the California Lottery (we didn't win). After dinner they settled in at the 21 tables while I rushed over to ride Desperado, the rollercoaster . None of them had any interest in riding the tallest and fastest coaster in Nevada. It was the tallest in the world  at one time, but since has been surpassed. It was one of the most fun nights I've had. I rode three times in succession, running to buy another ticket, grinning form ear to ear. The others thought I had lost my mind. A Roller Coaster gives you a thrill that's hard to beat. Find your nearest theme park and go have some fun!
If you enjoy coasters as much as I do check out
