1st Annual EHA Draft A Major Success
The Eastside Hockey Alliance completed its first Entry Draft this weekend, and it went smoothly. The New York Islanders and Tampa Bay Lightning stole the show, drafting the top 4 picks between themselves. The Isles made Nathan Horton the 1st overall pick in the draft, hoping that the ?Welland, Ontario native will become the power forward they desperately seek to go up against the big scorers on division rivals like the Rangers, Devils and Stanley Cup champion Flyers. The Islanders made waves just 2 picks later, confirming leaguewide rumors when they traded captain Mike Peca to the Lightning for the #4 pickl, with which they drafted goalie sensation Marc-Andre Fleury. The young French-Canadian will take the place of Rick Dipietro, who was just shipped to the Blackhawks for Eric Daze.
The New York Islanders are reportedly shopping captain Michael Peca The Stanley Cup Champion Flyers are rumored to be considering putting Jeremy Roenick on the trading block, along with Yushkevich and Ragnarsson. With Detroit losing an astonishing 7 players to retirement, the Red Wings are finally entering a rebuilding mode. Rumor has it that they are very interested in acquiring high draft picks and talented young players. And with 5 of the 7 retiring players being forwards, they are definitely looking for help up front.
