eric chen is my subject for today. he's a good friend of mine, we've known
each other since 8th grade (1993)...wow. it's been a while. through high
school and college we were fortunate to attend the same school. i consider
myself fortunate because it has allowed me to see him mature as a person
and as a xian over the years. not only that, but we have been able to
maintain a steadfast relationship over that period of time, which is
great.
the reason why i wanted to talk about him today was because 2 weeks ago,
he spoke at ficb. that was one of the topics i had meant to discuss
earlier, but i forgot, like i said in my last thought. anyway, he spoke
about ezra, and seeing the sovereignty and control of God working through
circumstances and time. i was quite impressed with his delivery. i found
his presentation much improved from the last sermon he gave during the
fall of 2001. this time, he seemed much more at ease at the podium, more
comfortable. the words came out more smoothly for the most part, though at
times he was reading directly from his notes. his flow was good for just
his second sermon as well. i was very impressed. and the subject matter.
that topped everything. it really showed how much he prepared and
researched for the sermon, and had a clear understanding of what was
going on in the passage. more that that, he had a firm grasp on the
passage's place not only in the Old Testament but in its role pointing to
our prophet, priest, and king. someone had sent a link of his sermon,
which was recorded and put on the kcpc website. if you know the link,
definitely check it out. it's really worth it. i know my little retelling
here doesnt do eric justice.
so i felt proud of my friend, not just because he had given a sermon, but
because it was so well done. i was surprised, actually, in its depth. i
felt proud to know that eric had such a mature, full understanding of
the Word. upon hearing him speak, i thought that he has the ability to do
it fulltime. i dont know why he's meddling with public health school. he
should go for seminary. all the way. phd. fulltime service for the Lord. i
hope he wont get a big head over this. im sure he's been complimented on
his skills, and i know he tries to stay humble.
