oh, a couple funny things to start off with before i bore everyone with my
usual blabber. on a license plate i saw last week: JABRONY. how awesome
is that? now there's a die-hard wrestling fan, no doubt.
so last night
my dad he tells me he saw a popup ad on a korean website advertising
for koreans to audition as actors for movies. he told me, totally serious,
to try it out. to go ahead and send in some pictures of myself, because
he thought i had a shot at becoming an actor in some korean movie, you
know, because, according to him, im better looking than brad pitt (he had
just watched "meet joe black"). haha. my dad is so funny. and so objective. he told me
so. i guess my new goal is not to be an fbi agent, but a movie star. so i'll have to
start working out, pluck my eyebrows, and burn off all my moles. then
take some glam shots (with makeup of course!), and cross my fingers. ive
told some people about this, and they all said i should go for it. why
use my brain if i can use my looks, right? just like derek zoolander. or
is everyone saying im as dumb as he is... what do you think, mr david
shin? do i have a shot?
well, it's the start of a new baseball season, and im very happy about that. the first game of the season, last night, between the angels and the indians, was a treat. colon, despite aging two years in just 6 months, pitched well, the way he can when his head is in the game--complete game shutout, 5 hits, 5k, 5bb. totally dominating. if he can keep it up all year, i think things could bode well for the indians, because they will really have to rely on pitching the entire season. no more 5-run bottom of the 9th comeback victories or out-slugging their opponents 14-12. they dont have the hitters to do it. but their pitchers could be something special...the aforementioned colon, and sabathia and baez especially, if they pitch like they can despite their inexperience. they will allow the indians to have a realistic shot at the AL central crown. im also really optimistic about the a's this year. theyre only getting better, and i feel that theyre good enough to take on anyone, despite the loss of their mvp jason giambi. they dont need him to get to the world series. they dont need the other greedy sellouts johnny damon or jason isringhausen either. with the kids they got, they can beat anyone. im sure of it. especially those cursed yankee$ and their new fir$t ba$eman, ja$on giambi. with the big three pitchers and the best 3B of the future (and jenny choi's fellow high school alum) eric chavez, giambi wont be missed that bad. we'll see who's laughing when his younger brother puts up better numberes than he does, or when the a's sweep the yanks out of the playoffs. ok, im a little bit idealistic, but it's the first day of the season. bear with me.
old news--the oscars were surely a disappointment, but i wasnt surprised. i knew lotr wouldnt win best actor, though i thought ian mckellan was deserving of best supporting actor (anyone see his 20something boyfriend?). i knew stinkin beautiful wife would win best picture...but im really glad russell crowe didnt. i was pulling for denzel, as i thought he did a great job in training day. i thought halle berry overreacted a little bit during the oscars, though. she said she was going to take her time, 74 years' worth, or something like that when giving her speech. now, i understand that blacks havent won very many oscars at all, and there's soemthing fishy when there are a lot of good black actors out there. i dont know if it's racial or what, but they arent getting the oscar-worthy parts, so they arent getting nominated. as for winning the whole thing, that's quite a feat, and few actors, have been bestowed with that honor. so i dont think people should make a fuss about blacks not winning the whole thing. but anyway, they swept the best actor categories, so i think it will help other blacks as well as (hopefully) other minority actors out there. maybe me too. just kidding.
