so i just read on espn that they gave another gold medal to the canadien ice skating pair and allowed the russians to keep theirs. i havent seen their routine, so i dont feel as strongly about this as people who have seen it. but i think the committee did the nicest thing they could do. everyone turned out to be winners--the russians kept theirs, the canadiens got what they deserved. it's not fair to penalize the russians because the judges messed up...and they did BIG TIME. but at the same time, isnt there supposed to be only one winner? only one person in first place. so my first reaction to this decision was that they should just leave everyone to their medals, because what's done is done, and despite the blunder, they cant rejudge the competition because it's over, and part of the scoring element is that they are there, seeing it, and grading on their first impressions. but that's a harsh way to go...and by giving the canadiens their due medal is much nicer, and in the spirit of the olympics. geez, but cheating judges? that's not right at all. that's a sacred trust there, that they are as objective as possible. messed up.
