I had a small highlight in my day yesterday. For the second time, I met a Cal football player. His name is Dewey Hale, #21, our starting strong safety. I met him in our demography class. I didnt know who he was, but i had an inkling when our prof asked if we were going to have a football game this weekend, and he replied in the positive, adding that we were playing BYU. After class, I asked him if he was on the team, and his name. He gave me all the info and thanked me when i wished him luck. It was great because he had a smile the entire (brief) time i talked to him, and seemed genuinely thankful when i wished him luck. I will definitely be looking for him if i am able to watch the game this saturday, and in the future. Hopefully he (and the team) will do well, and i will be able to congratulate him on tuesday in class.

This past wednesday, i had my last training session for Kaplan. I'm pretty glad that it's over, because it took a lot of time, but im also glad that i will be able to teach. the program i will be teaching is one in oakland, at skyline high school (of gary payton fame, if im not mistaken). im not exactly sure how it works, but i think the kids get to take the course for free while the oakland school district pays for half, and kaplan covers half. or something like that. anyway, it's a great program because these kids wouldnt normally be able to afford kaplan testprep (or any sort of testprep), but now they get the opportunity to. regardless of if the SAT is a fair test or if it should be mandatory for college, kids have to take it. and being able to prep for the SAT helps them. it's a great program, i think. giving a chance to those who deserve it, but cant because of circumstance and finance. another thing. i found out that my supervisor is a christian-she goes to New Church in berkeley, a nondenominational church. that's wonderful as well.
alright, im off to class. see you next time.
